Bishop of Roermond opens 'shrine of St. Servaas'

The shrine of St. Servaes has to be restored. It holds the relics of St. Servatius, the first bishop of Maastricht. In the presence of the bishop of Roermond, Mgr. J.M.J.A. Hanssen, the dean of Maastricht, Mgr. Jenneskens, opens the shrine for the first time since 1863. He checks the relics, which are wrapt in medieval fabric, and after that the worshippers file past the relics. With archive footage of the 7th annual Sanctuary Procession where the shrine of St. Servaes is carried through Maastricht.
