This excerpt from the Central News Bulletin of ERT-1 presents the beginning of the spread of the COVID-19 virus in China and Asia. Initially, the rapid spread of the virus in the Chinese city of Wuhan, and statements that were made by locals and German scientists about the discovery of the first test to detect the viral load are shown during a report. Then the main presenter Andrianna Paraskevopoulou talks to the ERT journalist Anna Papasotiriou who describes the first theories about the origin of the virus as well as lists the countries in which the first cases are identified. ERT correspondent Costas Davatis from Geneva talks about the World Health Organization emergency meeting on ways to stem the spread of the epidemic. Then, a report is shown with statements of travelers arriving in Greece from China and the Minister of Health Vassilis Kikilias. Finally, the professor of microbiology of University of Athens Athanasios Tsakris from the ERT studio compares the COVID-19 virus with viruses that caused epidemics in 2002 and 2012, stresses the danger of the situation due to its rapid spread, mentions the characteristics of the disease and the ways of treatment and prevention.
