Woman in television

Greek

Video preview

A show-tribute to the International Women's Day on March 8, in the context of which the way in which women are projected in Greece through state television is presented. The show is edited and narrated by journalist Fotini Pipili. Initially, there were references to older state television programs that highlighted the course of the women's movement, feminist demands and claims, but there was a lack of coverage of contemporary issues that concern women. In addition, the journalist Fotini Pipili, who edits the show, refers separately to how women are shown through various types of television programs, such as entertainment shows, sports, TV series, children's shows and current affairs shows. There is an inadequate reference to issues such as abortion, physical abuse and single-parent families. The journalist also emphasizes that various stereotypes about women are reproduced through all television programs and that the male presence is particularly prevalent in current affairs broadcasts. Finally, there are concerns about the way in which the Greek woman will be broadcast on state television in the future. During the show, excerpts from TV messages of the equality council, from the TV series "Gastarbeiter" (ERT 1983), "Ta avriana" (ERT 1983-84), "Anna Petri" (ERT) are shown 1984), "Mr. Elias' lions" (1985) from the news programs "Here and today", "Open Papers" and "Opposite the Press" as well as advertisements of various consumer products are presented.
